Pocket PC...OUT 啦. Bill Gates 話UMPC 先之係勁!! PART II

Before Answering the question of my friend, you can take a look on the above movie which shows you many High Tech Device in CeBit exposure, but after half of it, Samsung Q1 has become the main character. Then you will know how strong is it and what is its influence. (however the presides does not thing it is billiant enough><) In the mean time, i just find that Singapore also produce similiar product but with VIA-cpu.

One of my friend (Hi, Michael! Are you here?^^) ask me why choose Samsung Q1. In order to explain this, i have listed out the detail information at bottom of these post.

In short, one of the reason is not out of the consideration of Price to Performance ratio. Q1 only sells at $9980, but all the others over $10000, for sony at least $12XXX. Most impressive thing is Samsung Hong Kong has doing the promotion schema on Q1, if you buy Samsung Q1 now, you will freely get the 6-cell battery for this UMPC. Both of the cell have power indicator lamp. it is easy to know how much electricity left in the cell. But 6-cell battery means what? haha... means you can use at least 5hr without charging in portable manner. It also means by using these two cells alternatively, you can use it for 7.5hr a day.

After plug this larger battery into Samsung Q1, it still lighter than the Asus R2H (below 820 grams). And this battery is worth $12XX. Wa! means you get $1XXX discount and additional play time for this UMPC.

Another concern is the screen size. Althought SONY's UMPCs only weight 520g / 480g, but the screen is too small, only has 4.5" but Samsung Q1 and Asus R2H has 7" LCD. I have use a ruler to meassure the size of button of windows in SONY UMPC, which only in 3mm. You are not hardly to imagine how difficult and inconfortable to click accurately on this button when traveling on a car or read the text in very small fonts for long time.

Nowadays many Digital Cameras (DSLR or DC) mainly use compact flash as data media. So Asus R2H only offer SD card slot is not enough for a people who take photo often. Now I can use Q1 and its built-in CF slot to share and view the photo just after i take photo from DC (difficult to do that on small screen like SONY one) with my friend when i am traveling. if you really need SD card slot, there is a CF to SD card adaptor which only worth $150. By the way in general CF device (CF GPS or CF GSM device) is much cheaper than SDIO device.

In common sense, computer can run more smoothly when there exist more RAM, such improvement is more obvious than use a slightly faster CPU. After study all UMPC's specfications only Samsung can use 1GB RAM. And the RAM is cheap and only cost $700, but the evil SONY not allow user to add additional RAM to their UMPC, so if you buy 512MB ram Sony UMPC, you will no method to tune your UMPC when you found that the ram is not enough.

Finally we go to compare the special offer over all the UMPCs. SONY offer GPS (Global Positioning System) / GPRS and finger print recognization. ASUS offer GPS and finger print recognization too. But in my point of view both of them is seldom use and if i need GPS i can buy a CF GPS which only worth $400. Then what Samsung offer? She offer a very useful thumb size usb connecting cable, which enable you connect between any two computers (not just UMPC) without setup a complicated network sharing or anything else. You just need to plug, then it will play. Files can be show in normal windows explorer on both connected computers. You may ask no need install driver for it? Answer is amazing. Its driver is self-contained. After you plug it to any computer, then it will install the driver to that computer when use it. No need to pre-install anything.......... Fansy!!!and Convenient!!! it is useful even if you have no UMPC, but you got a notebook)

If only consider the specification, most of people will choose Asus R2H. But due to the backgroud running software for R2H GPS and its finger print device, which make Asus R2H slower and faster exhaust its battery. If you want it run faster, but it only allow 768MB RAM which make it difficult to get rid of the poor performance by adding additional RAM.

So, Samsung Q1 offer me a expansibility, long life battery, comfortable reading manner, light weighted mobile windows XP working environment.

If you are a TV gamer then please sit steadily, you will soon be shocked by Samsung Q1's performance on gaming and the fantasy that it can bring to our future.
